John and Margaret Maher welcome you to their home, Ballinkeele
House, near Enniscorthy in County Wexford, Ireland.
Just 40 minutes drive from Rosslare Harbour, Ballinkeele House is
the ideal place in which to enjoy an Irish country house
holiday. Ballinkeele House, designed by Daniel Robertson in 1840, is the ancestral home of the Maher family. Set in 350 acres of game-filled woodlands and quality farmland, Ballinkeele is reached by a glorious avenue which sweeps past fine stands of hardwood trees, rhodedendrons, open parkland and a cut stone stable yard. Throughout the estate are many charming lakes and ponds. The atmosphere is one of sheer tranquility. Guests at Ballinkeele can enjoy croquet on the lawn, leisurely walks around the farm, the estate and surrounding countryside. Some of the local amenities include the famous long, white sandy beaches of Curracloe, the Irish National Heritage Park, Enniscorthy's Arts Centre and Museum, Altamont Gardens and Johnstown Castle. You can walk the Coastal Path, visit the nature reserve or browse local potteries. Nearby are fishing (by arrangement) six golf courses, horseback riding and the old, historic Irish towns of Wexford and Enniscorthy. Member of Euro-toques - you will enjoy country house cooking by your hostess, Margaret Maher. Ballinkeele is a classic Irish country house, virtually unchanged since 1840, apart from modern additions of heating, ensuite bathrooms and a degree of comfort which is outstanding. Ballinkeele is featured in Hidden Ireland, the on-line guide to exclusive Irish country house accommodations. |
